…Prepares for 2007 AGM

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations has officially conducted an induction of five organizations as the first corporate inductees in the history of the chartered professional body in the country.

Performing the induction, the President and Chairman of Council of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Professor Ikechukwu Nwosu disclosed that the institute has been inducting and organizing orientation programmes for her individual members who could be qualified in any of the categories of Member, Associate or Graduate. But in order to expand the professional horizon of public relations, the Institute introduced the additional dimension of inducting corporate members as well.

The five organizations are Pure Language Communications Limited, Metro Media, Messages Inc, Richardson and Briggs and DMB Public Relations Limited.

Prof. Nwosu pointed out that these corporate bodies are the pacesetters; they should therefore use this golden opportunity to further enhance their organizational through honest performances, open communication, consistency between performance and communication, commitment towards meeting public expectations and unshakable integrity which is the key to persistent reputation for any corporate entity.

Professor Nwosu who is also the Coordinator of Masters Degree Programme in Public Relation at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka commented some of the NIPR activities/programmes in the year 2007. He said as the hub of the PR activities, the National Secretariat of NIPR is being re-organised to meet members and relevant stakeholders’ demands and right to quality and responsible service. He disclosed that a panel has already been approved by the Governing Council to handle cases of recruitment and this is expected to be completed before the end of October.

The National President also that this year the Institute introduced the Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD) programme which has become popular and acceptable to professional members.

On the 2007 National Conference and Annual General meeting, he said it is scheduled to hold in Lafia, the Nassarawa State Capital later this year with the theme: Public Relations, National Reforms and Development.
